North Tyneside Light Railway
Welcome to the North Tyneside Light Railway!
We've been busy behind the scenes getting everything ready to build our railway. And with all permissions in place, it is exciting to announce that work has begun on phase one! With the headshunt embankment built and site clearance undertaken - we have begun to lay track!

Our Route
The North Tyneside Steam Railway Association is thrilled to introduce our 7¼" miniature railway project!
The miniature railway will feature:
-
Two charming new stations
-
Over 140 metres of track
-
Miniature train rides on operating days throughout the year
-
Redeveloped picnic area
With a successful public launch of the project in the past and a battery loco arriving to join resident steam loco Loki, we now look towards the future. An area of the site has been kindly cleared by volunteers to allow us to plan out one of the future station sites, and whilst we still have a fair bit to do - we're on track for a new experience at North Tyneside Steam Railway!
Loki
Members Thomas and Adam have recently acquired a 7¼” gauge locomotive, built in 1991 and based on the Romulus class. Designed by Roger Marsh this design is both strong and popular for passenger hauling it should be more than up to the task. The loco was recently overhauled in the workshops of the Lakeshore Railroad.
We also thought we’d share below some pics of Loki’s recent holiday to Porthmadog, N/Wales visiting our friends at the Porthmadog Woodland Railway based at the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway / Rheilffordd Ucheldir Cymru, Porthmadog during their 60th Anniversary of Volunteering Gala.
